Create Your Account

Before you can start using ChatGPT, you need an account. The good news is that it is completely free to sign up and takes less than five minutes. This lesson walks you through every step so there are no surprises.

Step 1: Go to ChatGPT

Open your web browser and navigate to chat.openai.com. This is the official ChatGPT website, built by OpenAI. Make sure you are going to the real site --- the URL should start with chat.openai.com. There are many copycat sites out there, and you want the genuine product.

When the page loads, you will see a clean landing page with options to log in or sign up.

Click the Sign up button. You will be taken to a registration page where you have several options for creating your account:

Continue with Google --- If you have a Gmail account, this is the fastest option. One click and you are in.
Continue with Apple --- If you are in the Apple ecosystem, this works seamlessly, especially on iPhone and Mac.
Continue with Microsoft --- Great if you use Outlook or a Microsoft 365 account for your real estate business.
Email and password --- You can also sign up with any email address and create a dedicated password.

Our recommendation: Use whatever email account you check most often. If your business runs on Gmail, use Google. If you live in Outlook, use Microsoft. The sign-in method does not affect what you can do with ChatGPT --- it is purely about convenience.

Step 3: Verify Your Email

If you signed up with email and password, OpenAI will send you a verification email. Check your inbox (and your spam folder if you do not see it within a minute or two) for an email from OpenAI. Click the verification link inside.

If you signed up with Google, Apple, or Microsoft, this step is handled automatically --- you are already verified.

Step 4: Complete Your Profile

OpenAI will ask for a few quick details:

Your name --- This is just a display name. Use whatever you are comfortable with.
Your birthday --- This is for age verification. You must be 18 or older.
Agree to terms --- Standard terms of service. Worth skimming if you are curious, but nothing unusual.

That is it. You now have a working ChatGPT account.

After completing your profile, you will land in the ChatGPT interface. You will see a clean screen with a text box at the bottom and some suggested prompts in the center. We will explore this interface in detail in the next lesson. For now, just confirm that you are logged in and can see the chat screen.

You should also see your profile icon in the top-right corner. Click it to access your settings, manage your account, or log out.

Set Up the Mobile App

ChatGPT also has an official mobile app for both iPhone and Android. It is worth installing because many agents find themselves wanting to use ChatGPT on the go --- while driving between showings, waiting at an open house, or prepping for a client meeting.

Here is how to get it:

Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android)
Search for “ChatGPT” --- look for the app published by OpenAI
Download and install it
Open the app and sign in with the same account you just created

The mobile app gives you the same functionality as the website, and your conversation history syncs between both. Some agents prefer the mobile app for quick tasks and the desktop version for longer writing sessions.

Important: There are many fake “ChatGPT” apps in both app stores. Make sure the publisher is OpenAI. The official app is free to download.

A Note on Security

Since you may use ChatGPT for business communications, keep these security basics in mind:

Use a strong, unique password if you signed up with email. A password manager like 1Password or the one built into your browser makes this easy.
Do not share your login with others. Each team member should have their own account.
Be mindful of what you type. Do not paste sensitive client financial information, Social Security numbers, or confidential legal documents into ChatGPT. Use it for drafting and brainstorming, not as a secure data vault.

You Are Ready
